Overboard and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

View Chris Kavan's Profile

Just when I thought things were heating up, the board cools things down - like an arctic-style bomb cyclone. After weeks of some good updates, they throw me this weak update with a single - that is one - movie of note, and it's a freakin' gender-swapped remake of an 80s comedy. That's right - hope you liked Overboard, because here comes the next version. Sigh - I'm finding it hard to even get my hopes up for future updates if this is all I can look forward to. Wake up, board, and get those butts in gear and give me something better next time.

So, yeah, we've got Overboard. If you're not award of the 1987 original, blue collar working-man Dean Proffitt (Kurt Russell) takes advantage of a cruel heiress (Goldie Hawn) who loses her memory after an accident on her yacht. He then convinces her that she is his wife and proceeds to knock her down a peg. Fast forward to 2018 and the plot is mostly the same, accept the wealthy snob is now Leonardo (Eugenio Derbez) and his put-upon employee is now Kate (Anna Faris). Gender swap aside, it looks to follow the original comedy otherwise. Eva Longoria, John Hannah, Swoosie Kurtz, Emily Maddison, Mel Rodriguez and Alyvia Alyn Lind round out the cast. It's hard for me to get excited about comedy anymore and the fact this is a remake, even with a decent cast, excites me even less. Rated PG-13 for suggestive material, partial nudity and some language.

So there you have the only film with a certified major release date this time around. But, fret not, more movie ratings await you below, if you dare to check out the full MPAA Ratings Bulletin.
