Amazing special effects for its time. memorable performance by Emil Jannings as Mephisto the devil himself. Visual symbolism and psychological complexity galore.

2018 Venom QR Reviews

let's be clear in this review... I am a Sony hater. but I will not let that perspective get in this review. so venom a movie that was definitely needed due to the reception of Spiderman 3. is venom for everyone. no its not and should of been rated R because of the fact that the movie feels rated R but because of editing its ended up being PG-13. and there is a lot of people dying from heads being eaten and the movie does talk about heads being eaten. and who is eating the heads of people well E...

I enjoyed Annihilation, Alex Garland's new sci-fi head-spinner. It features fantastic work delivered by a great cast, beautiful imagery that's equal parts surreal and breathtaking, and standout sequences that resonate with a haunting terror.

In general, my biggest concern was the direction, ultimately the cinematography. Camera movement were rough and lighting was very inconsistent. You could easily identify scenes largely composed of CGI. Poorly choreographed action sequences. This could have been a classic mystery but fell short in many aspects.

The Predator - Review

"You are one beautiful motherfucker".

Wow, this was embarrassing to watch.

‘The Predator’ is a mishmash of tones with a potty mouth. Really abusing that ‘R’ rating with every chance they get. You know it’s a bad sign when Arnold Schwarzenegger himself turned down the role to star in this movie. I mean, Arnold does not make the boldest choices, but he made the right decision with this one.

Not to say it doesn't have any entertaining moments and colorful characters, who are car...

Jim Carrey impressed me.

You’re the girl in the inner room.
Alicja is your story.
You talked, he wrote it down.

I suppose it’s almost impossible to use an exuberant color palette for a film situated in a Slavic country. Every time the story takes place in such a communist or ex-communist country, the screen is filled with depressing colors. The closer one approaches Russia (the motherland of communism) the more gray, grizzled, and duller the images become. The desolation and gloom are splashing off the screen....

Rating of: 2.5/4

Chris Kavan - wrote on 10/10/18

This movie is about 2/3 hurricane and 1/3 heist - much more Twister than Hard Rain. Still, if you enjoy brainless action, this is a lot of fun, stupid, but still fun. Plus, it's fun to watch Maggie Grace kick a little ass. If you've enjoyed disaster movies in the past, this is right up your alley.

Between Horror and Documentation

Danish director Benjamin Christensen in 1921 took the subject of witchcraft and confected a film experience around it to explore it as a historical phenomenon and see how it relates to the then present. This film defies simple categorization: is it a documentary? a horror film? a docu-fiction? a film essay? I’d go with that one. And indeed the film is experimental and unconventional in the way it is presented, but in truth Christensen wasn’t concerned with revolutionizing the form or medium, bu...

Humor helps to soften the blow in 'A Star is Born'

Humor helps to soften the blow in Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, "A Star is Born." When Jackson Maine (Cooper) puts the moves on Ally (Lady Gaga) he does everything from peeling off her false eyebrow to insisting that she admire the shape of her nose as greatly as he does. The laughter ensues. There is also great fun to be had in the company of Ally’s friends and coworkers, some of whom share the stage with her at the bar where she sings.

Anyone who has ever worked a dead...
